Enter stage right: Man wearing blue croc’s and jeans.
“Am I underdressed?”, is one of the funniest questions I answer on a semi-regular basis as a hostess at the bistro. Dress code can sometimes be a tricky topic, but attending summer theatre, I thought, was an open and shut case. For those that are not familiar with business casual, summer attire or age appropriate clothing here are a few of my personal tips inspired by our own patrons.
1. Matching your croc’s with your polo is not a proper substitute for loafers or dress shoes.
2. If your face needs to be painted on every morning, skip the white baby doll jumper.
3. If you are old enough to show us an AARP card, you are too old to show us your thighs.
4. Don’t over accessorize; ditch the necklace if it’s the size of a baby’s head or downsize if there are more than 20 bracelets on each of your arms.
5. No shirt, no shoes, no service; please keep your shirt buttoned to an acceptable chest covering height, male or female!
6. Wearing metallic clothing only makes it more apparent that you are with the senior citizen group.
7. Men’s plaid pants have gone out of style; donate them to the nearest Salvation Army.
8. Matching outfits with your significant other is just strange, the fact that there are giant flamingo’s on your couples fabric only makes me struggle not to laugh.
Wikipedia admits that dress code is the unwritten code understood by most members of society and carries a good deal of social significance. So, next time you are lacing up your sneakers, I beg you to consider what your clothes are saying about you.
Sadly i can visualize each and every one of these people we've seen at the Bistro. My favorite however might have slipped your mind since she never comes in anymore, the woman last year and the year before that who seemed to be stuck in Michael Jacksons closet. Wore skin-tight pants with sequins that seemed to appear in the most unusual places and who could forget her assortment of gloves? Each person who walks in to the bistro has some sort of personal style, some more vibrant than others. It's never a dull night at the Bistro By the Sea!
